Come buy a present at the first annual Nighttime at Downtime Art Market

Hullo. It’s me, Dayna.

I’m heavily embracing the holiday spirit this year. Maybe it’s because the bakery had just opened last year and we were so frenzied in December that I don’t even think I got Sam a present (sorry, Sam, if this is true), or maybe it’s because it just feels like it’s gonna be a snowy winter (Emary told me this, so I’m choosing to believe it) but I’ve already done a majority of my Xmas shopping and have most of those presents wrapped under our tree. It’s nice! It feels good to kind of lean into it. Or maybe, as I get older, I’m just joining the long lineage of women in my family who go all out for Christmas. Who can really say what’s going on.

Come to the Night Market 🎨

Regardless of whether you’re experiencing the joy of the season, heaven knows it feels good to get your friend or loved one a gift, and so we’re throwing another Nighttime at Downtime event this Saturday evening, from 6 to 9pm. It’s an art market with some very cool local makers, see below the flyer for the list!

KB Clay
Stephanie’s Ceramics (my mom!)
Niki Leist Jewelry
Farhana Ferdous Ceramics
Tomorrow Today Books
Stephanie Kantor Art
Canopy Collective Carpentry
Earthside Provisions Teas and Soups

Sam will be playing festive songs on the keyboard, we’ll be serving up cider. I’ll be selling individual fruitcakes (the first of the season to go out the door!) and some mince pies! It’ll be, most of all, a very nice scene. Come support local artists and buy a nice present for someone you love.

Friends of the Cresheim Trail 🍁

Speaking of nice presents, we’re currently hosting a raffle for a $100 gift card to the bakery, if you donate to Friends of the Cresheim Trail before Friday! Sam is a volunteer board member and trail maintenance guy for the awesome trail network and we’re trying to help them get some more bucks so they can continue expanding the trailnnetwork to Fort Washington. Donate here, then email us at info@downtimebakery.com with a screenshot of your donation, and we’ll enter you into the raffle. You have until Friday to enter and we’ll call the winner of the raffle by the end of the day on Friday!

Mince Pies, Holiday Preorders, Fruitcakes, Challah, and More

We have so much in store for preorder for the holidays, including our first ever cookie tin, lots of sizes of fruitcakes, challah for Hanukkah, and a special French honey spiced gingerbread that I have been obsessed with for years. You’ll have all the info you need next Wednesday, including a preorder link. Thanks for your patience as we bounce back from the Thanksgiving holiday!

Dayna’s What’s Up Corner

I have been all work and no play the past two (three? four? 100?) weeks as I did a lot of Thanksgiving prep. However, I have been listening to a LOT of Tyler, the Creator through it all. I’m reading a Roberto Bolaño novella called Monsieur Pain, which I very much like. Never read anything by him — should I dive into the rest of his stuff? I started a little dumb Instagram account where I post about things that I like, a la the What’s Up Corner. You can follow it here, if you prefer updates from me more on the daily side, than the weekly. How are YOU doing?? xo

We love your bakery! One small suggestion, instead of Challah would you consider doughnuts for Chanukah? Challah is not typically connected to the holiday while doughnuts are a traditional holiday treat.
