Galette pop-up this Sunday, July 13th! 🥧
Hello to the friends of Downtime Bakery,
I’m currently making redcurrant fig leaf jam, drinking a nice hot PG Tips, listening to an interview with Miley Cyrus, and contemplating if I’ll want to fold my laundry later. (No.) What are you doing on this mid-summer Tuesday?
I’m writing because I wanted to let you know about a fun pop-up we have scheduled for this Sunday, July 13th. It’s something new for us (I guess everything is new for us, since we’ve still technically only been open, what, 7 months?). We’re having a friend of the bakery — cookbook author and recipe developer and all-around wonderful person Rebecca Firkser — come by to share with us her first cookbook Galette!, which released into the world at the end of June.
To celebrate the book, the baking team at Downtime is making two recipes from Firkser’s book — an apricot and pepita-sesame frangipane galette and a summer squash and pesto galette, both with our signature spelt pie crust. They will be available in individual sizes on Sunday for our normal afternoon pie hours (1 to 3pm), but we are also doing a little preorder if you want to get a full, 9-inch galette to serve a few more people. Plus, you can preorder a galette and a copy of Galette! for a bundled discount.
Rebecca will be at the bakery from 1 to 3pm on Sunday, signing books and holding Galette! office hours, where you can go chat with her about galettes and how to make them. We’ll have the soft serve machine flowing and galettes ready to eat. If you preorder a full galette and cookbook, you can pick it up any time between 9 and 3pm on Sunday — but come by at 1pm if you want your book signed!
Let us know if you have questions. Can’t wait to see you on Sunday.
xo,
Dayna

We went surfing on Sunday and I cannot describe the bliss I feel floating about on my board — only thing that comes close is pulling bread from the oven. Maybe I’m being too obvious in saying I love the new Stereolab album, but dang it really scratches an itch for me. (I’m officially off of Spotify now, so accept this Apple Music link.) I watched the new Bad Bunny video today and the moves on this man never cease! Completely captivating to watch. I read Stoner by John Williams and loved it in a true, pure way. Sam and I have been rewatching every Mission Impossible movie for the past few weeks and listen, they’re good, if you just want to feel entertained. What’s up with you guys? Listening to anything good? Watching anything dumb?
The galettes sound fabulous ! They would be right at home on a silver tray at a fancy tea party in The Gilded Age. We are currently obsessed with that show on HBO. The Costumes, the extravagant meals, the architecture, the soapy drama!
