The longest Downtime newsletter YET (Preorders for Thanksgiving!!)

Hullo.

Do you read The Red Hand Files? Whether you’re a Nick Cave fan or not, I think you should. I regularly find more wisdom, humor, and life-affirming guidance in Nick Cave’s Q+A style newsletter than I do reading anything elsewhere. Just an endorsement if you’re ever looking for something grounding to read!

This is going to be a long newsletter, so strap in. We have announcements about Thanksgiving preorders, Downtime’s 1st Birthday Party, an Inquirer event we’re participating in, and a reminder about our At Heart Panadería pop-up this Sunday. The fall is the busiest time of year for bakeries and I am looking at my calendar and being like, “Haha whoa okay haha. Haha whoa! Okay. No problem…I’m fine.” I’ll sleep in January.

As they say on YouTube, let’s get into it.

Inquirer Food Fest!

Sam and I will be in attendance and baking biscuits and jam for this special cool event on Saturday, November 15th. Lots of our bakery and restaurant friends will also be there, so if you like food and Philadelphia, you should come. You can buy tickets here.

Thanksgiving Preorders!

They are live now at this link! We are baking on two days this year — Wednesday, November 26th and Thursday, November 27th, with preorder pickups only between 9am and 12pm. When you go to the website to order, you will find preorders for both days. Pick your day and go from there!

Downtime’s 1st Birthday Party!

Yes, it is true, we are throwing a birthday party. Tickets are $20 each and on sale now, just below the Thanksgiving preorder — scroll down. (You’ll have to preorder Thanksgiving items separately from your DTB ticket, it’s the way Square makes us do it, unfortunately.) The ticket cost covers drinks, pizza, cake, and entertainment for the evening. Our beloved Theo will be playing a stripped down set with their band Faded Home; we’ll have the amazing vinyl stylings of DJ on Mars. I am making a huge cake, as you probably expected. And we’re doing pizza Roman-style. Bring your friends, bring us a present. Limited tickets are available so don’t miss out!

At Heart Panadería x Downtime!

This Sunday, Teresa Finney of At Heart Panadería will be at the bakery and we cannot wait. While the preorder of all her wonderful bakes is currently sold out, we will have walk-in options available, so don’t miss out. Everything will be out at 9am! Come by.

Fruitcake

All the fruitcake was made today, and so begins the months-long process of curing it and feeding it with brandy. I guess I didn’t have to add this to the newsletter but I did anyway.

That’s mostly everything for now. Preorder your Thanksgiving treats, buy a ticket to party with us on the 22nd, and we’ll see you around the neighborhood.

Thanks, as always, for supporting Downtime. We love being here.

xo,

Dayna

Dayna’s What’s Up Corner

Kinda desperate to see the new Frankenstein — anyone seen it and have thoughts? We hiked Hawk Mountain and had a freaking amazing time, despite seeing zero hawks until we hit the parking lot. I loved Jia’s profile of Jennifer Lawrence in the New Yorker; it really captured what makes Jennifer Lawrence Capital-F FAMOUS. I’m reading and very much enjoying Wanting by Claire Jia, and listening to Fran and Kyle’s new Parts Work record. Immaculate art is all around us. What’s up with you?
