Whole wheat sandwich bread and lots of pane Siciliano today

It’s not often that I email when we’ve got some nice stuff on the daily menu but we made a bit too much starter for our pane Siciliano mix and so we decided to just wing it and make a lot more pane Siciliano than we normally do. Planning to come to the bakery today, Thursday, October 9th? As the expression goes, “Why not pick up some pane?” Is pane Siciliano the world’s most delicious bread? Don’t quote me on it but … I’m gonna say yes.

100% organic durum flour with unhulled sesame exterior. It’s got a soft interior and such a beautiful flavor. Perfect for soaking up pasta sauce, which I plan to do tonight with the pasta e fagioli I made for staff meal yesterday.

Then, even cooler, we have our 100% whole wheat sourdough sandwich bread on special today for our Thursday loaf. Lightly sweetened with maple syrup and made up of 100% organic whole wheat flour from Pennyslvania, it’s great for toast and sandwiches and everything else. We’re hoping to add the whole wheat sandwich loaf back into the rotation this fall so let us know if you like it.

Okay but the last thing … on Friday, we’re going to have sweet potato rosemary shokupan loaves, a bit of a precursor to even more Thanksgiving prep that we’re doing. Brushing off our old recipes, that kind of thing. So come today (Thursday!) or tomorrow (Friday!) for all this and more.

See you soon.

xo,

Dayna

I forgot to do this in my last newsletter so let’s do it now. Okay I just read The Woman Dies by Aoko Matsudo and it made me laugh out loud, just really quippy short stories with the tiniest bit of edge. I am now reading Hothouse Bloom by Austyn Wohlers and it’s a real change in tone but very good nonetheless. I should have said this a while ago but I went to Calder Gardens with Maggie when it first opened and it’s true what everyone is saying: an absolutely lovely place, Calder was a genius, I am so grateful that we have such a stellar new museum in our fair city. Go as soon as you can! Preferably on a nice, crisp, fall day. Anyone else been?

I visited the Calder yesterday w Margy. What a fabulous place. And the best part is that it is tiny...not so big it wears you out, small enough to make its collection impressive, big enough to enjoy...just like Downtime...see you tomorrow.

I enjoy your email and I'm going to try and make it to you, but I've been sick for a few months and had to stay home
