Apricot, thyme, and candied walnut loaves
Hello!
Almost as fast as September (which basically didn’t exist), October has flown by. We’re less than 10 days away from the beginning of November and it’s been a whirlwind month. Here’s what you need to know this week:
Autumn on the Ave 👻
Thursday, October 22nd from 3:30pm until we run out of candy
Are you one of the children planning to trick-or-treat down Germantown Ave. today? First of all, how did you get subscribed to this newsletter, and second of all, come swing by the bakery. We’ll be out front handing out candy to all the costumed kiddies.
Thursday Loaf — Out at 10am! 🍑
Today’s special loaf is a hearth bread made with candied walnuts, dried apricots, and fresh thyme. We had some proofing issues this morning (It’s starting to get cold! We’re adjusting our temps!), so our Thursday loaf will be coming out at 10am today. And as usual, we have free starter for the first six people to come grab one.
Friday Loaf
A very special Friday loaf is coming your way tomorrow. Rare! Our bread baker Caro got into barley grits, which we toasted and cooked with honey, then folded into the dough alongside some lovely brandy-and-cinnamon-soaked prunes. Prune and barley grits loaves, out at 9am on Friday!
That’s all for today. As a reminder, Thanksgiving preorders launch next Wednesday, October 28th at 7am. I told you things are moving fast around here. As subscribers to the infamous Downtime newsletter, you’ll be the first to get the link.
Thanks for coming to Downtime!

Dayna’s What’s Up Corner
Did you read The End of Everything by M. John Harrison? Can you tell me why you liked it? I really struggled with it but I’m wondering if it’s a me problem. That is everything that is up.
