Mill tours, Mother's Day, ICE OUT fundraiser...and more
Hi!
It’s springtime and almost summertime so that means there’s a massive amount of programming coming to Downtime Bakery soon. I’ve said it before but when two Geminis open a bakery together, they will take every opportunity to make work feel like a social gathering. So here we are.
Here’s a preview of some of our upcoming events!
ICE OUT Fundraising Dinner
Friday, May 1st at 7pm
A plant-forward fundraising dinner to support Philadelphia's New Sanctuary Movement Community Fund. Organized by chef Rachel Popik of Stay Doughy and me, the dinner is entirely vegetarian and focused on spring produce. We cannot make substitutions for dietary restrictions at this time. 100% of proceeds will be donated at the end of the event. We still have some seats left, but not for long (!), so:
Purchase your tickets on our websiteMother’s Day Weekend at Downtime
Friday, Saturday, Sunday // May 8, 9, 10
Consider this a little rundown of exciting stuff to come: we will be celebrating Mother’s Day with four (count ‘em! four!) legends in the house: Siobhan McKenna of Feels Like Sunday will be joining us Sunday for a preorder extravaganza, like we did last year. We’ll have New York’s Amanda Perdomo of Amanda’s Good Morning Cafe joining us on Friday for a donut and pie party. And to top it all off, we’ll have bouquets of flowers from Weaver’s Way Farms flower farmer Ale Lomanto, and ceramic flowers from my own beautiful, wonderful mother Stephanie’s Ceramics. Downtime <3s mothers. 🌼
All the info for preorders on all of these things are coming very soon! Keep an eye on your inbox — newsletter subscribers get access to preorders sooner than everyone else.
Bakers’ Hang 6 at Castle Valley Mill
Saturday, June 28th from 6 to 8pm
Are you a baker, home, professional, or otherwise? Do you want to see how an operating 18th-century flour mill works? Do you want to hang out and eat delicious baked goods with your fellow bakers? Do you like being in nature? Join us for Bakers’ Hang 6, where we’re all heading to Castle Valley Mill to have mill-owner family the Fischers show us around. We’ve arranged for a school bus to pick us up at Washington Square Park at 3pm and drop us back off in Philly at 7pm. Tickets for the bus are $20 and it’s the absolute definite way to get there, so buy a bus ticket soon before we fill up! (Planning to drive? Please RSVP here so we can get a headcount!)
Get A Bus Ticket Here!Phew, that’s a lot of stuff coming up. Did I mention soft serve 🍦, if all goes according to plan, is starting this weekend? :) :) :) This is a test to see if people read through to the entire newsletter. Add it to your calendar, save the date, etc etc etc.
Oh and Thursday loaf today is: cheddar, creamy grits, and wild ramps foraged by our friend Kit!
Thanks for reading!

Dayna’s What’s Up Corner
I am overjoyed by the seasonal return of the Southeast Asian Market in FDR Park. Cat and I went on Sunday and whoop, I bought more food than two people could enjoy in an afternoon, but we tried anyway. The most elite dessert of all time is steamed pandan coconut cake. A textural and flavor marvel.
Also, my copy of On the Calculation of Volume: IV arrived in the mail on Monday and it was like receiving the crown jewels from the king. If I hadn’t been so tired I would have read it all in one sitting but I’m going to take my time on this volume because I’m getting sad that it’s almost over when it only just arrived. Anyway, here’s me in my element, sugarcane juice as a purse:

Dayna, you are an alien force in a humans body! (From one extraterrstrial to another) 👽Love you...

I’m about to start volume III and it’s such a compelling series!!❤️
