We are so back 🩴
Good morning!
There is nothing quite like a staycation. For a week, while the bakery was closed and Sam was visiting family and friends in Vermont, I did the following things: read four books, got a massage, took myself out to a very good dinner, slept, dined with a friend, went running, slept some more, walked around New York, and texted my group chats relentlessly. The dreamiest week was then followed up by the perfect weekend: a house with loved ones by the beach, where I got to introduce my friends’ two-year-old to both the music of Rosalía and donuts.
Let’s just say he much preferred one over the other. :)
Vacation was a hit, as you can expect, and I only thought about the bakery a little bit, which was a rule mandated by the staff. The best feeling I’ve had in a long time was being in the ocean at 6:30am, paddling around aimlessly on my surfboard, thinking about absolutely nothing at all. Bliss.
And so: We’re back in the groove already and are very excited to welcome you back this morning. Here are some updates for you:
Thursday Loaf
Today’s Thursday loaf is one of my favorites: caraway marble rye. We use 30% stone-ground sifted rye flour, toasted caraway seeds, and a nice black cocoa for some color, and it’s a great sandwich for a tuna melt, if that’s your thing!
Bye to Challah
I know that Rosh Hashanah is this weekend but we are putting a pause on our Friday challah for a while, as we weren’t selling through it and it was too sad to see it go to waste. We’ll pick it back up in the winter if the demand is there.
Closing Day of Ice Cream
Our final day for ice cream this year will be Sunday, September 27th. A reminder that we have maple creemees Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 12pm to 3pm. Get your cone before they’re gone.
Croissants…?
🔜
That’s all for now! See you at the bakery!
xo,

Dayna’s What’s Up Corner
I really enjoyed most of the books I read over break, but if you — like me — are very into food, Karolina Ramqvist’s Bread and Milk is a must-read. Such a gorgeous memoir about growing up eating rice pudding in Sweden. I had the best dinner I’ve had in a long time at Dean’s in New York, if you also love British food, including marmite butter and Guinness bread. I’m currently reading Rachel Aviv’s You Won’t Get Free of It: Stories of Mothers and Daughters and she really is a masterful storyteller. I recommend! Anybody have an album they’re loving right now? I’ve been playing Bedouine’s Neon Summer Skin on repeat and am looking for something new.
